Our online stores use our
own suite of RedanSHOP CGI/perl shopping basket scripts which were developed
for use with a secure server. The store is usually page based, which
can make browsing of products easier for the customer, but the script
can also be used with pages generated by a database if desired. Two
versions of the script are included - an International version and a
USA version. The RedanSHOP suite is provided in our advanced hosting
packages and is also available for sale by download at US$25.00.
Any amount of pictures and text can be placed on the
store pages to describe the products on sale and an unlimited quantity
of items and pages can be used (this demo is one page only with minimal
description). Details of items placed in the shopping basket are held
in a temporary file on the secure server until checkout has been completed
or the customer has left the store. Unlike many shopping basket systems,
no cookies are placed in the customers' browsers.
This version of the script is setup for international
use (with this example using a store located in the North Island of
New Zealand). In this demo, the 'Your Basket' window is displayed each
time that an item is placed in the shopping basket and image files are
used for the various buttons. This script can be adapted for any country.
A demonstration of the separate version of the script
designed specifically for use in the USA is available here.
The demo of the USA version uses the standard browser buttons and the
'Your Basket' window is NOT displayed each time an item is added to
the basket.
RedanSHOP handles sales tax separately - this demo
uses gross retail prices which are tax inclusive for New Zealand customers
and tax can be deducted from overseas sales at checkout. Alternatively,
the script can be set to handle net prices where tax is added at checkout
for sales within New Zealand. The script also handles zero tax or tax
exempt products in combination with taxable items.
In accordance with the European Union (EU) Digital
Services VAT Directive, both versions of the script are able to add
value added tax (VAT) to sales made to destinations within the EU. Stores
may be required to collect EU VAT even if they are located outside of
the EU. For this demo, the script is set to add EU VAT to sales to EU
countries. It has been assumed that the store has registered for VAT
in the United Kingdom and that the VAT rate is 17.5%. New Zealand sales
tax of 12.5% which is included in the gross retail prices is deducted
before VAT is added.
Various methods of calculating shipping costs are
available:- by total cost, quantity or weight, fixed, or none. In this
demo, the script uses the total weight of items in the order to calculate
shipping costs.
Please try out this demo of RedanSHOP, making use of the
Shopping Basket Help as necessary.
When the customer completes the checkout form, the order data is given
a number and is placed in a file (with name based on order no., date
and time) on the secure server. The customer is sent an e-mail confirming
receipt of the order. The store owner is sent an e-mail advising that
an order has been placed and giving a link to the password-protected
order data file.
For this demo, we also send you a copy of this e-mail.
To view the order data file, click on the link - the user name is: store
and the password is: demo. (You must give your real e-mail address but,
of course, do NOT include your real credit card details!). The order
data is also added as an update to a comma-separated data file that
can input to a spreadsheet, database, order tracking and fulfillment
program or customer management program.
RedanSHOP is designed for use by suppliers of goods
who have a merchant account for acquiring credit card charges off line.
It is not specifically designed for on-line card processing followed
by an automatic download of the ordered items via the internet although
undoubtedly it could be adapted for use with an on-line credit card
acquirer if desired. |
