| We
are a founder member of ICMR (Independent Classical Music
Retailers), a group of privately-owned retailers located
throughout the British Isles, all providing expert advice,
a high standard of service and excellent value to all who
enjoy the best in classical music. We are also members of
BARD (British
Association of Record Dealers) and are a Hyperion
Records
Accredited Dealer (probably Britain's most innovative
record label).
Because of the many hundreds of thousands of classical recordings from around the world (particularly from the UK, continental Europe, the USA and Australasia) that we can supply, it is simply impossible for us to include them all on this web-site. For this reason, we only list particular special imports, a selection of regular UK releases plus recent releases from Seaford Music Distribution. Our "shopping basket" can only include the items listed on this web-site and they are only a small fraction of the discs that we can supply. If you cannot find what you are looking for, please send us an e-mail or use our secure enquiry/order form for your wants and queries. Many people are surprised to discover that multi-national record companies such as Universal Music (Decca/London, DG, Philips, etc.), EMI, BMG and Warner Music do not release all of their discs throughout the world. |
Although it might be expected that small record companies only release their discs in their own countries, frequently the major record companies only release discs in Europe and not in the USA and vice-versa. Sometimes they only release in continental Europe and not in the UK! In addition, some recordings are not released in certain countries for contractual and legal reasons; much of the Naxos Historical series being unavailable in the USA for example. In addition, many Universal Music releases which are deleted in the UK are available at normal UK prices but through their own special import service. Of course, we supply all of these discs to our customers world-wide. Our current retail price range for regular CD releases in the UK is GB pounds 4.99 to GB pounds 15.99; with some special imports priced a little higher. We also stock a good range of UK and EC classical music DVD-videos but, under UK law, we are unable to import DVDs from outside the European Community. We also have a good selection of secondhand classical compact discs in stock at bargain prices. |

| Adrian Corleonis in USA magazine: Fanfare - November/December 1999: The Want List | James Delingpole in 29 January 2000 Daily Telegraph: e-shopping - How to buy the best on the Net: classical CDs | |
| "This indispensable album, by the way, has been released in Decca's Belart series, which is being withheld from domestic distribution, but Martin and Sarah Wale, at Seaford Music in East Sussex, can get it for you (and be advised that they are not just another mom-&-pop shop but recording and sheet music specialists in touch with the entire European market, and therefore a necessary contact for the serious collector) | "Which is why, nine times out of 10, you're
far better off buying your classical records from a high street specialist.
The prices won't necessarily be the cheapest, but at least you'll be dealing
with people who can get you exactly what you want and give expert advice.
That's why I'm so happy to recommend one of the very few specialist dealers which does have a website - www.seaford-music.co.uk. Though its site isn't exactly a model of sophistication - it's a bit higgledy-piggledy and has no 'shopping basket' facility - it does take online orders, it provides loads of information (reviews, etc.) on its comprehensive stock and it offers free p&p. Also, if you e-mail with a classical query, proprietor Martin Wale will almost certainly know the answer. He enabled me to track down the two recordings I failed to find last time I wrote about classical CDs in this column" |

| USA magazine: American Record Guide - January/February 2001 | ||
| "Seaford Music is a British outlet. The server is secure, but the website lists only special promotions and imports. They suggest you e-mail them or use the server for enquiries. They're particularly good at hard-to-find Deccas, like the Monteux Enigma Variations and Deccas from Australia. Ordering is easy, service is prompt - about a week to get your order. Searching is fun; once you start going through the lists, you can't stop." | ||
| Richard
Dyer in 8 September 2002 The Boston Globe |
||
| In
France, for example, EMI has recently produced a wonderful five-CD set of
the legendary French organist-composers active in the first half of the
20th century (Tournemire, Widor, Vierne, Marchal, Dupre, Durufle, Langlais,
Messiaen, etc.), many of them playing their own works. |
I learned of this not from any published source but from an acquaintance who runs a small record company of his own. Good luck finding the set in an American store - but you can order it from www.amazon.fr or fnac.com, or from a specialist dealer such as Seaford Music (www.seaford-music.co.uk), a mom-and-pop store in England whose proprietors enjoy the challenge of finding anything you are looking for. |

| Rattle | Morrison Trust Records | |
|
Inspired by the contemporary labels of the northern hemisphere, Rattle was established to bring new music from Aotearoa (New Zealand) to a wide audience. Constantly pushing at musical boundaries, their recordings are of music engaging head and heart. Rattle's producers have sought to draw together a sound that is of the Pacific, that embodies the heritage of its indigenous peoples, and those who have followed. Not a classical, 'world music', or a jazz label, nonetheless Rattle presents artists from all of these streams. |
Trust Records
is a New Zealand full-price label established by the Morrison Music Trust
in 1995 to record New Zealand's finest musicians and composers.
David Denton in May/June 2000 Fanfare - "Three discs that give a very interesting and highly enjoyable overview of the current musical scene in New Zealand, a part of the world that still seems somewhat adrift from our artistic perceptions... (they) have all made the most favorable impression and deserve international exposure far outside the Southern Hemisphere." Click here for an up to date catalogue. |

| Mediaphon | ProPiano and Chateau | |
| Mediaphon, a German label, but part of the Madacy Entertainment conglomerate. Unfortunately, they appear to have abandoned their classical catalogue so, as we run out, we are unable to replace their Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra 50th Anniversary series from broadcast tapes and high quality recordings of the Suisse Romande Orchestra and Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra. | ProPiano is a USA full-price label, subsidiary of the leading
New York supplier of Hamburg Steinway pianos, specialising in piano-music
recordings by mainly New York-based artists. Many recordings from the celebrated
Japanese pianist Chitose Okashiro and her new recordings for her own label
- Chateau.
Billboard 12 September 1998 - "The very definition of a high-end boutique label, ProPiano Records has issued some of the most lovingly prepared piano recordings around over the past five years." |
