The Henschel Quartet

Winner of a recent Deutsche Schallplatten prize, Mediaphon's disc of three of Haydn's named quartets presents the celebrated young Henschel Quartet in their usual splendid recorded sound. Vibrant performances of Haydn at his best.

The Amati Quartet

The virtuoso Amati Quartet play the last three of the six quartets that Haydn composed in 1787 for his patron King Friedrich Wilhelm II of Prussia. This appears to be the only single-disc of the last three quartets currently available. An excellent recording at mid-price.

One of the unexpected legacies that came to light after his death was Michelangeli's life-long friendship with the singers of the choir Coro della SAT from Trent in Italy. Here are the complete collection of nineteen folk songs from Trent, Piedmont and Lombardy with harmonizations composed for the choir by Michelangeli. With their sometimes unconventional sounds, these arrangements bear witness to his extraordinary imagination and originality.
